Frequently Asked Questions
Welcome to Cross Timbers IDPA! We are glad to have you visit us. Please read our FAQ to get some insight on our matches.
What does it cost to shoot a match?
The cost to shoot a match is broken down into two parts.
#1. Range fee that is paid to the owners of the range. At Winchester it is $10.28, At JCSSA it is presently $5.00
#2. Fee to Cross Timbers for members is $5.00, non members is $10.00
Total: Members $15.28 at Winchester, $10.00 at JCSSA. Non-members add $5.00. Show your JCSSA Membership Card at sign up and get a $2.00 refund (at JCSSA matches)
What does it cost to be a Cross Timbers member?
$26.00 per year (2009)
Do I need to be a member of Cross Timbers to shoot?
No, but it is cheaper, and membership has privileges such as voting.
Do I need to be a member of I.D.P.A?
Yes, if you are not presently a member, you will need to join. Go to www.idpa.com for information. You obtain your membership through them, but you can shoot while your membership is in process. You can shoot your first IDPA match without being a member of IDPA. You also get to shoot your first match FREE! Just pay the range fee. After that it is a requirement to be a member of IDPA.
What do I need to bring?
The best thing to do is go to www.idpa.com and use the information provided, but in a nutshell you will need:
1. Handgun: revolver .38 or larger, pistol 9mm or larger
2. Holster: IDPA uses real world, practical equipment for concealed carry so you would need a strong side holster, either inside the waistband or outside the waistband. LEO / Military may use full duty gear. Shoulder, small of back and cross draw holsters are not permitted for safety reasons.
3. Magazines: A total of 3 magazines or speed loaders is enough and belt carriers for 2 magazines or 3 speed loaders are good. You can put these in your pockets, but it does not work well.
4. Ammunition: about 100 rounds for The Winchester Gallery and 150 at JCSSA should be enough.
5. Cover Garment: Your weapon and extra rounds will need to be concealed by a vest, jacket, or untucked shirt.
Safety
Safety is our main concern. Please check out the " four rules of gun safety" on the www.idpa.com website.
Multiple Guns
In the past, we have allowed shooters to have two guns and two score sheets. Starting May 2007, shooters will not be allowed to sign up with a 2nd gun if the total number of shooters is greater than 20. This applies to our Thursday night matches only.
